With the global pandemic of Covid-19 now in full swing, more and more countries are announcing lockdowns in an attempt to halt its spread. For many people, this means weeks or even months of being confined to their homes with little to do. But don’t despair! There is plenty of fun and interesting things you can do at home to keep yourself busy and entertained. Here are a few ideas to get you started.
Play drinking games with your roommates
There’s an abundance of drinking games that you can play with your roommates if you are lucky enough to be living in a shared flat during these times. First, there’s the classic game of beer pong. You can set up a table in the living room and play until you’re too drunk to continue. To enhance the experience you can use things like a beer snorkel to drink your beers faster. This way everyone can get drunk faster.
Another great game is a flip cup. This one is also best played with a large group of people. You can set up a row of cups in the living room and see who can drink their cup and flip it over the quickest.
If you’re looking for a more challenging game, you could try playing quarters. This one is best played with just two people. One player flips a coin and the other player tries to catch it. If the coin lands on the table you can hit it with your hand to flip it over, then try to bounce the quarter into the cup on the other side of the table. Just make sure not to miss or you’ll have to drink!
Play a video game you’ve been meaning to finish
Video games can be very compelling and addictive. There’s always the one game we’ve been trying to finish for years but haven’t gotten around to yet. Maybe it’s an old PS3 or Wii game that you got bored with but somehow never deleted from your system. Or maybe it’s a computer game that you keep promising yourself “just one more turn.” Well, now’s the time to play it! Even if you finish the game in a few days when nothing is keeping you from playing, you’ll have had some fun and finished something on your to-do list.
Holiday binge-watch your favorite Netflix series
Nothing beats a long holiday weekend for spending hours in front of the TV with a big bowl of popcorn in your lap. Why not marathon your favorite Netflix original series? Sure, you can always watch House Of Cards, Stranger Things, or Narcos on the regular, but now’s the time to catch up on that show you’ve been meaning to start for months. You have tons of time since there are no obligations keeping you from watching TV. Or maybe catch up on that guilty pleasure TV show you’ve been telling yourself is awful but secretly love? You know what it is – goes watch it!
Work on your blog/side business
The thing about the beginning of the year is that everyone has grandiose plans to start new things, make meaningful changes and create amazing content. We all know how that goes. Sometimes you start strong and end up too busy to continue making any progress towards your goals. Other times you lose motivation quickly and fail before you even get started.
Start that business or blog that you’ve always wanted to have. You have the time to work on it, you don’t need to waste your time with anything less important now. And if you are persistent you will see results before you even know it.
Make a playlist of your favorite music
If you don’t feel like working, why not make a new playlist of your favorite music? It’s the perfect activity for a long holiday weekend. You can pour yourself a glass of wine and sit down in front of your computer to create the perfect mix of songs that you love and will want to listen to over and over again. Plus it’s a healthy activity that will make you feel productive.
Also, searching for new music is a pleasant activity as well so you can listen to the latest hits and decide which ones will make your playlist.
Organize your room
This one is perfect for when you’re alone at home. If you don’t like staying in the same place all day, you can always try to tidy up your room or apartment before your roommates get back. You’ll be able to relax knowing that everything around you is neat and organized. And the best part is that it only takes a few hours to put everything in its place so you have no reason not to do it.
Organize your computer files
We all have a mess of files on our computers. Some of them are from years ago and might be very useless by now. Drag those files to your desktop, delete them and create a folder where you can store all the documents that still matter to you. Sort out your pictures and put them in relevant folders. It’s not much, but it will improve your computer experience quite a bit. Remember to not delete anything without checking it first, though.
When you complete this task you will feel very accomplished and you will be glad that you did it. It only takes a few hours so why not use the time to work on something that will make your life easier?
Learn to play an instrument
A lot of people want to learn how to play an instrument, but they never get around to doing it. Why not start this year when you have the time and patience? The best part is that you can learn something new through online videos so you don’t even need a tutor or time in a class.
You can take the opportunity of this lockdown to learn something that will provide you with hours of entertainment and potentially a new career path. It all depends on how dedicated you are and what instrument you choose to master.
It’s always a good idea to use your downtime productively. You can catch up on some TV, listen to music, organize your room and files or learn something new you’ve been wanting to try for years. And if you have any plans of starting a business in the future, this is the perfect time because there are no distractions keeping you from making progress towards that goal! We hope these activities help keep boredom at bay while we’re all confined indoors. The best part about them is that they only take a few hours so it won’t be hard for you to get everything done before things return back to normalcy. Which one of these tasks will benefit you most?
