Susan was born on 31st July 1939, in New Jersey. She was raised in an Irish-American family with a dream of growing into a big actress. Unfortunately, she only grew to 5ft5 in her adult life. She finished High School in Manhattan, and later joined “Stephens College” a woman’s college located in Missouri, from which she received her degree and graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in theater in 1962. At that time Susan kept silent being under difficult circumstances where also some of their close friends did not know about her sexual life. Once she openly spoke about it, she and Flagg lived together in a house in Montecito. The three Susan, Fannie, and Rita became very close friends.
