Susan Flannery the $9 million net worth lady is an American renowned actress well known in the Hollywood industry. Emy-Award winning soap opera actress is best known for portraying Dr. Laura Spencer Horton in the daytime drama “Days Of Our Lives”, and as Stephanie Forrester on the soap opera “The Bold and The Beautiful”. 

A Small Biography Introducing Her Early Life

Susan was born on 31st July 1939, in New Jersey. She was raised in an Irish-American family with a dream of growing into a big actress. Unfortunately, she only grew to 5ft5 in her adult life. She finished High School in Manhattan, and later joined “Stephens College” a woman’s college located in Missouri, from which she received her degree and graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in theater in 1962. This college proved to be her late in life discovery like Narnia’s closet. We will come to it eventually. 

Susan’s Beginnings Of Being Wealthy

Flannery is a long-running actress with great skills and passion. Left to appear on-screen in leading roles, she has surely given phenomenal performances throughout her career. Those whom the majority remember are in the daytime dramas “Day of Our Lives” and “The Bold and Beautiful”. And no, Joey was NOT the doctor nor was he a fragment of his parent’s imagination.

She made a debut the year after her graduation in 1963 the JFK year. Her first appearance was in an episode of the TV series “Burke’s Law” as Lily’s secretary. Followed by portraying the role of Molly in the movie “Guns of Diable”. Susan then cast in “Days Of Our Lives” to play the role of Dr. Laura Spencer Horton, spending nine years in the NBC series which aired from 1966 to 1975. She here met the legendary writer William J. Bell, crucial for her career later on. During this time while being part of the show, she was also involved in several other movie projects. Her major role which brings her the first Golden Globe Award was in the movie “The Towering Inferno”. Not only an increase in her pay, but Susan also secured her name in the film industry bringing her new roles in movies such as “The Gumball Ray” (1976), the television series “Dallas” a few to mention in the years that passed. 

Thereafter, the writer William J. Bell invited her to become part of the soap opera “The Bold and Beautiful”. Flannery became best known worldwide for playing the character of Stephanie Douglas Forrester, a role which will bring her MVP Award for the category as Best Actress (1991),  and 3 Daytime Emy Awards as Outstanding Lead Actress (2000, 2002, and 2003). Susan also got the opportunity to direct some of the episodes of the show and was twice nominated for a Directors Guild Of America Award for her work. Flannery was one of the original cast members who stayed in the show for 25 years from 1987 to 2012 until she decided to leave the show with her character Stephanie having the last storyline as losing the battle with lung cancer and dies. Behind the scenes, rumors swirled that Moss (who played Ridge Forrester) was not happy and left the show a few weeks before her. Apparently, Susan was one of the first to find out about his determination and selected to shut her character out and retire. 

Other major appearances to mention are in the movies “Hope & Faith”, “Good News Week”, “Wheel Of Fortune”, and “Guiding Light”. In 2010, the blog called “We Love Soaps” put Susan Flannery as number 1 in the Top 50 Soap Opera Actresses of All Time.

Personal Life And Other Interesting Facts

Susan has never been married to any guy as she has publicly declared herself as gay. In 1996, in the memoir of the writer and gay activist Rita Mae Brown, stated that Susan and the actress Fannie Flagg has been in an 8 years relationship. Although, rumors circled before Rita (which has the ex-girlfriend of Flagg) published it. At that time Susan kept silent being under difficult circumstances where also some of their close friends did not know about her sexual life. Once she openly spoke about it, she and Flagg lived together in a house in Montecito. The three Susan, Fannie, and Rita became very close friends. 

In 1987, Susan decided to become a mother and adopted her daughter Blaise Flannery, currently, age 32, who is totally opposite of her mother and does not want to live life in front of cameras and media. Together they have very few public appearances where Blaise supported her mother. Maybe another reason was her, studying in Australia. 

Susan currently lives in Santa Barbara, California with two Labrador retrievers. She enjoys flying and is a licensed pilot, who also loves cooking. At now 81, Susan still has it for me.
